Giving back to the Himalayan nomads

kora was founded with the aim of supporting the communities of the Kegawa Herders' Cooperative, by buying their yak wool directly to create our layers.

A collective of more than 90 families in the Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, our friends live all year around at 4,500m.

We buy this wool at a set mid-market rate throughout the buying season in order to offer price certainty, and in addition we pay a 10% stipend.

A Successful Rethinking of Socks

I like these socks. They're not nearly as heavy or thick as I expected from the photo: the bottoms are thin, and the tops are the equivalent of a light- to midweight hiker... which has me wondering what Andrew Skurka would say... I think hed like them. The good news is that, with the added thickness on the top, they are significantly warmer than my very thin merino running socks, ideal on these sub-freezing mornings. My Very Thins would often not insulate fully, especially in rain and snow, where the UDS are keeping me comfortable. The seam under the toes was a concern when I first examined them, but there are no negatives while wearing them: no chafing, no hotspots. I have 100+ miles on them, and they continue to wear as-new, with no signs of wear. All in all, an interesting and successful rethinking.

Great socks

I was initially sceptical, and they do feel a bit different from regular socks - theyre slightly looser fitting than the other (merino) socks I use; not an issue aside from that Ive found they dont work so well in trainers due to my heel slipping, but in mid-height (or higher) trainers/boots they work well (and to be fair the sock is designed for hiking). They feel great and adapt to a good temperature range, keeping my feet warm when Im out in the snow. They have become my regular cold weather sock.

Happy Norway Customer!

The socks I've actually been using each day since they arrived last week, and they perform absolutley perfect. I tend to get chilly feet but the Kora socks are working their magic it seems. I'm quite sure these are just my first two pairs of Kora socks.
