Technical base layer for cold weather

The ultimate cold weather base layer. Soft next to the skin, high yak wool content helps to trap warmth whilst wool's natural properties will allow your skin to breathe. Reinforced panels add durability where it's needed most.

Giving back to the Himalayan nomads

kora was founded with the aim of supporting the communities of the Kegawa Herders' Cooperative, by buying their yak wool directly to create our layers.

A collective of more than 90 families in the Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, our friends live all year around at 4,500m.

We buy this wool at a set mid-market rate throughout the buying season in order to offer price certainty, and in addition we pay a 10% stipend.

Unbelievable!

Every year, I spent hundred of dollars of name brand products that simply ended up looking like a painter's rag after a few wash! I am so impressed by the quality, look and feel of Kora shirts that I've gotten so far and long as they have the quality and workmanship, I will be a customer for life! So happy I found you!

Great material

My new favorite outdoor clothing brand. These Yak wool blends are comfortable, breathable, and durable.

It’s a winner.

Although I have only used the Yushu about 10 days since it arrived and while none of those have been under really challenging conditions with respect to cold weather the top has performed admirably. The conditions have mostly been in the -3 to + 6 C with a bit of snow but mostly rain, sometimes heavy.

My hikes requiring a range of other layers including, at various times, a light mid-layer, a heavier mid-layer (OR Ascendant hoodie) and a hard shell in a number of combinations. I carried a ~10 kg winter climbing pack that sits flush against my back.

I found the top did a good job of temperature regulation and moisture movement even when I was perspiring moderately heavy. Interestingly I observed that when the top was ‘working the hardest’ I felt slightly chilly. I assume it was the shirt moving the moisture and warmth away.

One of my observations was the warmth of my back when I would remove my pack. My lower back is one of the areas I perspire most heavily and over the years I limit the number of times I take my pack off because my back gets chilled immediately, even if I put on an insulating layer. With the Yushu, even though the moisture has nowhere to go under the pack, my back was still comfortable.

I have a number of merino and synthetic zip tops. Is the Yushu noticeably better than my comparable tops from Ice Breaker or Arc’teryx? Not that I can tell so far with the exception of my warmer back.

It is a very good top that I readily reach for when heading out.
